I’ve been looking forward to this past week since literally before spring semester even ended. I’m, like, 80% sure I signed up for the DIS Arctic Excursion trip before I even signed up for my classes. And let me tell you, the literal months of anticipation did. not. disappoint. I think I pinched myself maybe 30 times in the last five days because I couldn’t believe that this was actually my life right now, that I was actually flying through a forest covered in 3+ feet of snow on a dogsled (and that was just the last day!). Keep reading to hear all about our incredible adventures above the Arctic Circle in Kiruna, Sweden!

pretty sure it’s a disney set, or, an afternoon in tallinn
Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve reached the last day and final blog post about the grand Scandinavian adventure my mom and I took last week. On our last day in Helsinki, we took the ferry down to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, for the afternoon!
seeing every church in finland, or, a day (and a half, ish) in helsinki
Our second-to-last stop (not done yet, folks) on our grand adventure was Helsinki, Finland!
sunny days in sweden, or, two days in stockholm
The third stop on our list? Stockholm, Sweden! I’m really, really glad we had two full days here; I don’t think we could have seen everything we wanted to see in just one day. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Stockholm at first, but by the end of our second day there it had risen to second place on my list of favorite cities we visited (the first is Copenhagen, probably for the rest of forever).
found the trees in flåm, or, a day (and a half) in bergen
Our next stop on our trip was to Bergen, Norway. We flew in on Sunday afternoon and were there until early Tuesday morning. We spent the majority of our visit not actually in Bergen—we did a Norwegian fjord tour farther inland, and it was absolutely beautiful!
standing in a color wheel, or, a day in aarhus
After reading through the blogs of past student bloggers a lot (maybe too much) in preparation of arriving in Denmark, I knew there was one place I needed to go: Aarhus! It’s the second-largest city in Denmark and the largest in western Denmark, called Jutland. Many of the core courses go there for their Core Course Week, but since my class went to Hamburg instead, I hadn’t made it out there yet. I heard even more about the city from many of my apartment-mates when they returned from their Core Course Week travels there, so when planning this trip for my mom and I, I decided this would be a perfect place to start!
