cold hands and a warm heart, or, dis arctic excursion

I’ve been looking forward to this past week since literally before spring semester even ended.  I’m, like, 80% sure I signed up for the DIS Arctic Excursion trip before I even signed up for my classes.  And let me tell you, the literal months of anticipation did. not. disappoint.  I think I pinched myself maybe 30 times in the last five days because I couldn’t believe that this was actually my life right now, that I was actually flying through a forest covered in 3+ feet of snow on a dogsled (and that was just the last day!).  Keep reading to hear all about our incredible adventures above the Arctic Circle in Kiruna, Sweden!

sunny days in sweden, or, two days in stockholm

The third stop on our list? Stockholm, Sweden! I’m really, really glad we had two full days here; I don’t think we could have seen everything we wanted to see in just one day.  I wasn’t sure how I felt about Stockholm at first, but by the end of our second day there it had risen to second place on my list of favorite cities we visited (the first is Copenhagen, probably for the rest of forever).

standing in a color wheel, or, a day in aarhus

After reading through the blogs of past student bloggers a lot (maybe too much) in preparation of arriving in Denmark, I knew there was one place I needed to go: Aarhus!  It’s the second-largest city in Denmark and the largest in western Denmark, called Jutland.  Many of the core courses go there for their Core Course Week, but since my class went to Hamburg instead, I hadn’t made it out there yet.  I heard even more about the city from many of my apartment-mates when they returned from their Core Course Week travels there, so when planning this trip for my mom and I, I decided this would be a perfect place to start!
